Charter Boat Deckhand position on the "Eye of the Storm" in Whittier, Alaska

 

When:  Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Where: Prince William Sound, based in Whittier.

Position Description:  Deckhand will assist Captain with day-to-day work associated with fishing/sightseeing/general transportation business.

The “Eye of the Storm” is a Coast Guard certified boat and rated to carry up to 12 passengers and 2 crew.  Deckhand must have high work standards

and be dedicated to providing top quality customer service.  Successful applicant must be able to handle, filet and process fish (halibut, rockfish,

lingcod, salmon, etc.).  Deckhand must also keep both the inside and outside of boat clean and functional, understand recreational fishing and be

able to use recreational fishing gear.  Deckhand must be capable of repeatedly lifting at least 50 lbs. during the charter day. Knowledge of Prince

William Sound and sea life in the area is desirable.  

Starting Salary:  On charters - $150/day (based on experience) + ½ of tips.  Land-based work - $15/hour. Housing: Included. 

Workdays: Fishing charter hours area generally 6:30 am to 6:30 pm (leave the harbor 7 am and return by 6 pm).

Qualifications: Must have a minimum of current First Aid/CPR, must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.  Applicant

must be clean-cut, a non-smoker and hopefully really enjoy fishing. The “Eye of the Storm” is a drug and alcohol free work site.  Successful applicant

will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and will be enrolled thereafter in a random drug testing program.
