Charter Boat Deckhand position in Whittier, Alaska

When:  Mid May through mid-September.

Where: Prince William Sound, based in Whittier.

Position Description:  Deckhand will assist captain with day-to-day work associated with fishing/sightseeing/general transportation business.

The “Eye of the Storm” is a Coast Guard certified, sub-chapter “T” boat, rated to carry up to 12 passengers and 2 crew.  Deckhand must

have high work standards and be dedicated to providing top quality customer service, filet, process and handle fish (halibut, rockfish, lingcod,

salmon, etc.), keep both inside and outside of boat clean and functional, understand recreational fishing and be able to use recreational fishing

gear.  Deckhand must be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs.  Knowledge of the Prince William Sound area and sea life in the area is desirable.  

Starting Salary:  On charters - $120/day + ½ of tips.  Land-based work - $12/hour.Housing: Optional housing is available at a cost of $200/month. 

Workdays: Fishing charter hours area generally 6:30 am to 6:30 pm (leave the harbor 7 am and return 6 pm).

Qualifications: Must have current First Aid/CPR and must be at least 18 years of age (requirement to do the job).  Successful applicant must be a

non-smoker. The “Eye of the Storm” is a drug and alcohol free worksite.  Successful applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment

drug/alcohol test and will be enrolled thereafter in a random drug testing program.
